Ad tracking
Ad tracking shows which ad brought each WhatsApp conversation and records the outcome of the service: not qualified, qualified or sold. With it, you see per campaign how many conversations became good leads and how much was sold.
In this version, clicks and conversions are recorded in agents2.me and appear in the Ad Attribution report. Automatic sending of conversions to Google Ads and Meta comes in a future version; everything recorded from now on will be used.
This feature has no connection to template broadcast campaigns: it measures paid ads that lead the customer to start a conversation.
Turning the feature on
- In Settings → General, in the company's features area, turn on Ad tracking and save.
- Whoever configures it needs the Ad tracking permission in their profile (read to view, edit to generate links). After a permission changes, the person must log out and log back in.
- Open Settings → Integration → Ad tracking. The screen has a block for each type of ad, described below.
Meta ads
Click-to-WhatsApp ads on Facebook and Instagram are recognized automatically. There is nothing to set up.
When someone taps the ad and sends the first message, Meta itself reports which ad the person came from. agents2.me stores this data on the contact: the ad identifier, the title and the Meta click identifier. The conversation then shows the Meta Ad badge.
Google ads with a website or landing page
Use this when the ad takes the person to your website and they click a WhatsApp button there.
- Turn on auto-tagging in Google Ads. It adds the click identifier (
gclid) to the site address. Google Tag is recommended but not required. - Paste the code from the screen into your website, before
</body>. The code is unique to your company and looks like this:
<script src="https://<api>/t.js" data-site="k7m2qa" async></script>
From then on, every WhatsApp button and link on the page (wa.me and api.whatsapp.com) is tracked, however many there are:
- Each button keeps its own number and its own message. The code only appends a short code to the end of the text, for example
Hi! I'd like a quote (#K7M2Q), which identifies the click when the message arrives. - Only your company's numbers are tracked. A button pointing to a number that is not one of your company's WhatsApp channels keeps working normally, without a code.
- Visitors who did not come from an ad go straight to WhatsApp. With no click identifier (
gclid, gbraid, wbraid) and no UTM in the visit, the code does not change the buttons. Someone who came back to the site after clicking an ad is still tracked through the Google Tag cookie.
Google ads going straight to WhatsApp
Use this when the ad does not go through a website.
- Choose the WhatsApp channel and write the opening message the customer will send.
- Click Generate link. The link is created with a random code, for example
https://<api>/t/x8f3kp. - Copy the link and use it as the final URL of the ad in Google Ads.
The link opens WhatsApp on the chosen channel with the message and the code. You can generate as many links as you like, for example one per campaign, and delete the ones you no longer use.
The code in the text is valid for 7 days and is used only once. If the customer deletes the code before sending the message, the conversation is not attributed.
Classifying when closing
Conversations from ads show the Google Ad or Meta Ad badge in the header, and the click appears in the contact's timeline. When you close the service, classification is required:
- Not qualified — the lead was not a fit.
- Qualified — the lead is good, even without a sale.
- Sold — enter the sale amount.
With opportunities turned on and the conversation linked to a CRM contact, the Sold field shows the list of the contact's open opportunities. Choosing one moves the opportunity to the first won stage. The + New record option opens a quick form to create the opportunity, and it is disabled when the contact has no account; in that case, enter only the amount.
Classification is only requested when the click is within the attribution window: 90 days for Google and 7 days for Meta. If the contact clicked more than one ad, the most recent click counts.
Through MCP, the finish_conversation tool accepts classification, saleValue and opportunityId.
Sales recorded in the CRM
An opportunity whose primary contact came from an ad also generates conversions:
- created or moved to a won stage, it counts as a sale with the opportunity's amount;
- created in any stage, it counts as a qualified lead;
- if it leaves the won stage, the sale is flagged for reversal.
The same sale is never counted twice, even if it is marked in the Inbox and in the CRM.
Report
In the Report Builder, the Ad Attribution type lists the clicks with source, campaign, ad, UTMs and classification. Group by campaign to see conversations, qualified, not qualified, unclassified, sales and revenue.
